Surprise!!

One morning about three months ago at 1:30 am, I was sitting in my recliner feeding Sami when I had the very distinct impression that I was pregnant. I've had this feeling before over the years, but this impression was so strong that I went to the calendar at the early morning hour and started counting days. It was possible. So I sent Jonathan to Walgreen's during his lunch break to buy a pregnancy test (there was a time when I bought them bulk from the Internet, but those days are past, gratefully). And the result was an instant positive! The second baby Olsen is on its way! I was really nervous at first...nervous that I would miscarry again, and even more nervous that I wouldn't be a good mother to two children so young. But my Mom reassured me that women do it all the time, in fact she had three kids in three years, bless her heart! We are now 15 weeks along and are so excited. This next baby is coming around December 18th. December is a great month for us!!

This ultrasound was taken at 13 weeks. We just want a healthy baby, it doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl. But Jonathan and I both agree that it would be so fun for Sami to have a little sister. For us, this pregnancy is even more evidence that Samantha belongs in our home. Our family needs her. I am so glad that she will have a sibling to play with and grow up with. In fact, these two are going to share a lot of the same experiences, and I am glad that they will have each other.

It's Official!

Today Judge Steele gave us a judgement of adoption for Samantha. She's officially ours! Technically we've been her foster parents these past six months. It was really neat to hear the Judge proclaim her our daughter for life, not that it changes anything, it was just really nice to hear. She's ours for life, and we can't wait until she's ours for eternity! July 12th we take her to the Nauvoo Temple to be sealed for time and all eternity. We can't wait!!

Sami was such a trooper during the court hearing. It was right during her nap time, but she didn't fuss at all. Everyone admired her, even the Judge said she was cute and happy. By the time we got home, she could barely hold her head up. She was asleep as soon as her head hit the mattress.

One Great Dad!

This is a great day for us! This is Jonathan's first Father's Day as a father, and he loves it. And we love him. Jonathan is such a great dad. He took his medical boards yesterday (yuck!) and was very excited for a day off from the books. So in celebration, I made him homemade pizza and chocolate cake. I was hoping to spoil him all day but he spoiled me too. He got up with Samantha this morning so that I could sleep in. And he insisted on doing the dishes while I got Sami ready for bed. What a sweetie!

Loving the Cooking Blogs

My newest hobby has been looking at cooking blogs. My two favorite blogs come from my friend Erin and her sisters, and then one by her sister (or is it sister-in-law?). Erin served in Young Women with me until she moved to MI last year. We loved it when she brought in refreshments because they were always divine! I have tried several of these girls' recipes over the past few weeks, and they do not disappoint! Everything I have tried has turned into a "favorite." And every recipe comes with a picture. It just doesn't get any better. So if you like to cook, check out these blogs: http://www.sisterscafe.blogspot.com/and http://www.mykitchencafe.blogspot.com/. Thanks Erin, to you and your sisters!!

Dear Samantha,

We can't believe that you are already six months old, but they have been the best six months of our lives! Thanks for coming to our home. You are our sweet angel girl, and we couldn't love you more if we tried. We can't imagine life without you. We love you so much !!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Back to Gerber

Samantha loves Gerber green beans. They were the first vegetable she ate. But I think Gerber baby food is a little pricey, and I know I can make it for a fraction of the cost. So I read a website on how to make baby food. It's easy enough, just boil the veggie and puree it with baby formula for added nutrition, and you have delicious, healthy baby food. But what if it makes your baby gag? We're going back to Gerber at our house.
