St. Patrick's Day

On March 16th, we got our Frozen dvd. We let the girls stay up to watch it and that night when I went to re-tuck everyone in, I saw that Janie went to bed as Elise, with her gloves on (i.e. dirty socks on inside-out).

The next day was St. Patrick's day, so I made green waffles and green eggs for dinner. The girls thought it was fun and I love easy, yummy dinners. The next day, Sami ran out of the bathroom, saying "Mom, I am freaking out! My pee and poo are green!"
Sami wrote a note to McRiley, our family leprechaun. He liked it so much he left a little note for her. Jonathan wrote it super small, I even had a hard time reading it. He told Sami that's how leprechauns write.

We did the same scavenger hunt we do every year. I am pretty sure Sami will figure it out next year.

They found their treasure, a bag full of skittles. They were in the mailbox.

I love being a mom to these three.

Lucy is 2!!

Our sweet little Lucy is 2 today!
We all adore this little one.
And just to be honest here (just in case I forget in 20 years, I can remind Lucy of this when she has a determined child), Lucy and I were really struggling about six months ago.
I felt like we were warring all day long. She was throwing tantrums all the time. It got so I dreaded taking her out in public or to the store, because I knew I would come home upset and frustrated. I went to bed exhausted, upset, or frustrated. I was not sure how we would survive the teenage years if it was this hard as a one-year-old.
I had never met a more independent and determined child.
But that has changed these past few months. I don't know exactly what happened. Maybe she stopped teething. Maybe she started sleeping better. Maybe it was that she could communicate more. More likely I got better at being more consistent with her. And I started realizing that her determined  personality was a good thing too. That her independence could also be cute, not just frustrating.
Anyway, we have just had a ball with her lately. She has been cracking us all up with her singing and her little words, and her mimicking everything the other girls do. Her giggle is contagious and her antics are mostly charming.
I think she has stolen my heart. Again.
These three. I am so, so glad that they have each other and that they truly love each other.
Lucy got lots of nice presents and cards.
Cake and homemade ice cream was everyone's favorite.
We love you Lucy. Always have. Always will. So glad you came to our family.

Firsts

Jonathan went back to AZ for a few days to run his first full ragnar race with his brother and sister. He ran 22.4 miles in 24 hours.
He came home exhausted but determined to run a full marathon.
I wish we could have gone to AZ with him, to see friends and family, and enjoy nice weather, but I have to settle with these pictures from my sister-in-law. I am thankful that she and her kids were there to support them (thanks, Sarah!).

This is our first winter in Omaha, and it's been full of sickness. It seems like one of the girls has been on antibiotics all winter. We have had three ear infections, a uti, and countless colds. I am so looking forward to spring!

And Sami and Janie went to the movies for the first time ever to see Frozen. They have been so excited for this and I have milked it for good behavior. They were waiting for Jonathan to get home from AZ to take them, so I reminded them constantly to make good choices so they could go with Daddy to the movies. And since Jonathan doesn't do anything small, they enjoyed the full movie experience, complete with popcorn and licorice.
They loved it, mostly. Janie got a little scared with the snow monster. But it was a fun experience.
